Class G Work Permit

1 year, renewable annually
For: Foreign nationals employed by a Uganda-registered organisation
The primary work authorisation for employed foreign nationals in Uganda. Issued by the DCIC after assessment that the role cannot be filled by a qualified Ugandan national. Holder may not change employers without a new permit.

Special Pass

Up to 90 days
For: Foreign nationals awaiting a Class G decision
Allows the holder to work legally in Uganda while a Class G application is being processed. Can typically be renewed once. Must be applied for at the DCIC Kampala office.

Dependent Pass

Co-terminus with the primary permit
For: Spouses and minor children of Class G permit holders
Allows dependants to reside in Uganda. Does not grant work rights β€” a separate Class G is required if a spouse wishes to work.

East African Community Pass

For: Citizens of EAC member states (Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, DRC)
EAC citizens have preferential immigration treatment under the EAC Common Market Protocol. Confirm current DCIC requirements before assuming work authorisation β€” national policies vary.

Application Process

How we handle your Uganda work permit

1

Document Preparation

We advise on the exact document list for your role and nationality, prepare the DCIC Form G1, and review all documents for completeness before submission.

2

Special Pass Application

Where the employee needs to start work immediately, we apply for a Special Pass (5–10 days processing) to cover the period while the Class G is being assessed.

3

Class G Submission

Complete application package submitted to the DCIC Kampala office. We track the application status and follow up with the immigration department on your behalf.

4

DCIC Assessment

The DCIC assesses whether the role can be filled by a qualified Ugandan national. Our preparation of the local recruitment evidence is critical to a successful outcome.

5

Permit Issued

Class G work permit issued β€” typically 30–60 days from submission. We collect the permit and deliver it to the employee. Renewal tracking begins from day one.

6

Annual Renewal

We track permit expiry dates and initiate renewals at least 60 days before expiry to ensure no gap in work authorisation.
